Generic Title

I don't read Software Development magazine now, but I used to love its earlier incarnation, Computer Language, back in the late 80s and early 90s. Which somehow makes this dumb little blurb on Evolution a little special to me in a way that the stories on CNN or in the Wall Street Journal were not. [via Mike.]

Just yesterday I was thinking I could probably throw out my box full of issues of Computer Language from 1992.

I still can't believe BYTE magazine isn't around. No magazine since has introduced such a wide range of technology or programming languages. Definitely filled my youth with proto-geek excitement.

The best part of "Software Development" mag is the page of excerpts from an old issue of "Computer Language". Kind of like Scientific American's 25/50/100 years ago page, but in "internet years".

I appreciated BYTE when I was in college, but the magazine that really got me going as a kid was Compute!. Typing BASIC games into my Commodore 64 was a good way to learn--I even picked up some 6502 assembly that way.
