NMH

jeff mangum's head, i assume

Number of times I've listened to the Neutral Milk Hotel album On Avery Island in the past 24 hours: 6.

Even I know that overexposure to this emotional, fuzzy folk/pop isn't healthy. As I listen to it I think to myself “this isn't healthy,” and then I turn it up. The deal I've made with myself is that as long as I score at least a 2 on the NMHAKI (Neutral Milk Hotel Ass-Kicking Inventory, i.e., how many people in this photo need to be beaten up) then I can keep playing it.

my dream girl don't exist.mp3 (not from that album), you've passed.mp3 (from that album, but probably not a song anyone else would choose from it if they were choosing just one song)

Thank Jebus! I was afraid this was going to be YANMH (Yet Another New Mail Handler) blog entry. I was totally going to chastise you for succumbing to the popular pressure!

I think "On Avery Island" has more devastatingly beautiful stand out songs, but "In the Aeroplane over the Sea" flows a bit better. I might be bias, since my hook for NMH was "Holland, 1945."

I'm sure you've already spread your mega-LISP bucks all over the Elephant-6 collective, but The Olivia Tremor Control also deserves a bit of attention. It's not quite as emotional, but it's still sonically mesmerizing.

Which two?

Well, the guy with the wind chimes on his head is just obvious. After that it comes down to a matter of personal preference.

The guy in the back wearing whatever the hell he's wearing. Obviously.

Ted, the guy in the back appears to be wearing a canvas duffel bag. And from the look on his face, I would say that although you could physically hit him, there is no way you could hurt him.
