I regret to inform you that Dan Barlow's monthly newsletter Free the X3J Thirteen, which reported on activity in the open source lisp world, is officially, and sadly, dead. I have removed the link from the sidebar.
Time of death is listed as May 1, 2002, cause is lack of activity.
(I also removed the commented out movable type calendar thing that kept popping up in mozilla, which apparently was having problems parsing html comments).
Posted by jjwiseman at May 23, 2002 11:30 AMIt sounds kind of harsh, put like that. There's as much free lisp activity now as there has ever beed; the "lack" referred to is purely mine in chronicling it.
So, "lack of activity" was the immediate cause of death, but the proximate cause was my realization that of the two audiences who I saw as possibly being interested, ftx13 wasn't actually serving either: most of the things it reported were already known to Lisp hackers through comp.lang.lisp or CLiki or this here weblog, and I didn't have the time to spend on the kind of detail that would make it entertaining or informative for people in other free software communities.
Other contributory factors: (1) the nagging voice in my head that kept telling me not to write anything rude (yes, I shoudl have ignored it more often), (2) I managed to announce the imminent release of CMUCL 18d three months in a row. That kind of thing gets a bit boring after a while ;-)

I still think you're in a good position to know and be able to communicate the developments in several interesting projects. Maybe short notes to c.l.l once in a while just so others can stay up to date would be good.
