Now he's talking at tonight's LispNYC meeting (“This month's presentation is about next-generation language design and why Lisp is relevant by Joel Spolsky”).

Not ironic at all - it seems he has decided to take up some of the suggestions listed in the comments on his blog and really learn about Lisp. I think that my comment there may have been a little harsh to him, though, and for that I'd have to apologize if I ever meet him.
