Robolympics

Robolympics. If I think that the term “robot” should be used for machines that have at least as much autonomy as a thermostat, does that make me a kook?

But, it's got arms! and legs! It looks like a robot, so it must be?

When I first started grad school in robotics, I was told a robot is the "intelligent conection of perception to action", and robotics is anything involving action, perception or intelligence. Takeo Kanade specifcally said "A thermostat, then, is a robot." I think you're in outstanding company.
