It turned out to be a good thing that my flight back to LA was canceled. I got to see the research farm my sister works at, where they observe and record characteristics of hundreds of varieties of corn, have a cold room in which they store seeds that go back 40 years, and raise corn-eating worms and moths and larvae and pupae. The entomology lab smells pretty bad, mostly because of the food they give the bugs (they call it “diet”; usage as a mass noun). Though there are some moths that eat beer mixed with a little honey, and that didn't smell so bad. Not so bad at all.
